FAQ: Bachata Classes at ICB Studios Hamburg

Getting started & levels

Do I need to bring a partner?

No, you don't need to register with a partner :)

We rotate partners throughout the class so that you can experience different types of dancers. First this gets you comfortable dancing with others, and secondly you can improve much more quickly by learning to adapt to different styles. Now you can take these skills to the social dances!

I am a beginner – which class is right?

If you have never danced Bachata before, we have our dedicated 12-week Bachata beginner program! It's the perfect start to your Bachata journey :)

Please send us a mail or text us on WhatsApp to get info about our next Beginner program.

We look forward to meeting you!

I danced Bachata before, which class is best for me?

This depends on the Bachata style you have learnt. If you are new to the Bachata Sensual style and the essential techniques, you will visit our foundation classes, before continuing with any other level.

All newcomers with Bachata experience will need to come to one of our level checks to see which class(es) they can book for the next season.

See our season overview to see if level check registrations are open or contact us to ask for more info.

Can I join after the programme has started?

Late entry may be possible up until the second week after program start. Please contact us to enquire about the possibilities.

Do you offer a free trial class?

As we work with programs in fixed groups, we do not offer any (free) trials in our regular program classes. However, if you want to get to know the community and get an insight into teaching at ICB Studios, you are very welcome to join our ICB Sunday session, which includes an open-level class and Bachata practice.

ICB Sundays happen at our location in HafenCity from 19:00 - 23:00 and cost 13€ per person.

For any further drop-in options and dance events at ICB Studios, please visit our events page or our booking page.

Class experience

What languages do you teach in?

Our classes are taught both in English and German, depending on the teacher and class group. German and/or English can be always supplemented when needed.

What shoes/clothes should I bring?

Wear whatever you feel most comfortable in, that also allows for a moderate range of motion for your body.

Are drop-ins possible?

For few of our classes, drop-ins are possible. You can check all drop-in options on the booking page. You can reserve your spot directly there and come to the respective class(es) :)

Can beginners join the styling classes?

The styling classes are intended for dancers who are already very comfortable with the basic steps and their variations. In the styling classes we add decorations on top of the regular Bachata movements. This is why the styling classes are not open for beginners.

Beginners will learn first simple styling options during the beginners program.
